Hold on there...
Burritos, hmm.  Best burritos I've had are from Wahoo's Fish Tacos, you can't go wrong.  Its Fast and Furiously delicious.  Although, if you ask my bf where the best burritos are he'd loudly exclaim SANTANAS!  He loves the shrimp burritos with extra hot sauce.  To me Santana's is a great place on your way back from drinking, especially since they have a drive through window (Claremont shop) which empties out into an alley and sometimes you get homeless people asking for a handout as you pass your money through the window.  The place gets sketchy after 4pm.
The food is not bad, but its not Wahoo's either.

Are you happy...a little late I know, but SD doesn't have the yelp base that SF has...we're trying.

El Rodeo in Ocean Beach is the best one.  Best.  Roberto's anywhere, Cotija's in Point Loma, Santana's, and Filiberto's all also good.

Basically anywhere that uses the good tortillas (read: filled with lard), meat and guac, with no rice&beans BS, tha'ts what works for me. And the meat has to be that shiny, greasy, charred, tasty wonder that *is* san diego taco shop carne asada.

did you also notice you can't get decent nachos, or rolled tacos anywhere else?

Absolutely not the VERY BEST burritos in San Diego are in two places. Ricos Taco Shop in Encinitas. The tortilas and beans and cheese are perfect. They practically melt in your mouth. They are local and have fresh ingredients. And basically every burrito ever from there is perfection. The close second is Lolitas in Clairmont Mesa. Because they give you burritos the size of your forearm for about $3. But still delicious. And they have an awesome slogan. Patience is the essence of good mexican food. Are you kidding how can you go wrong?

Mmmm ... a lot of the cheap Mexican food places here taste about the same to me, but I think my favorite burrito is the California burrito at El Cotixan on Mira Mesa .. Why? It has potatoes inside. Yummm. And it isn't as greasy as the California burritos at Roberto's. Sometimes .. I get a bit tired of eating really greasy food. Runner-ups include Lolita's, Alejandro's (also on Mira Mesa), and Super Sergio's.

Hmmmm...that's actually difficult haha.  I love any Roberto's--the Mexican taco shops that pepper San Diego are almost all wonderful.  Alvero's off of Poway Road and Sabre Springs Parkway is a great fast Mexican restaurant, too.

Guadalajara's in Escondido (Center City Parkway and Valley Parkway) is the best sit down dinner for Mexican food I've encountered, and Cocina del Charro has an excellent Sunday and holiday brunch.

I've heard about Wahoo's, and I'm curious about it.  The reccomendations I've heard have all been excellent.

You've got to be kidding about the CHIPOTLE, thats like saying taco bell has great tacos. I'm not down with the chain food, its got to be hole-in-the-wall style taco shops.

I'm not from the area, but personally I've never had a bad burrito in the San Diego area. My first california burrito experience was at Rosendo's off El Cajon, and I always come back.

Well, I am an El Zarape fan: Grilled Chicken Burrito on whole wheat tortilla or the House Burrito, which has been described as right combo of beans, rice, mole and chicken.

Chipotle is the bomb of gourmet, freshness and as you like, though I normally get my burrito in a bol there. Hint: get the burrito w/ out the cilantro lime rice. First time I ate there I thot it sucked.

For carne asade, I just don't know who has the best. ButrI like a good one from a local taco shop, and not totally sold out on the gringo burritos.

Warning**** I can't not be held accountable for the taste or quality of the burrito when sober., althoughI think that place has saved a BUNCH of people in P.B. from hangovers... and it's SOOOOOOOO good after a long night at the bars! Open 24 hours too! The breakfast burritos aren't bad either..

Nothing beats burritos at Freebirds in Isla Vista, Santa Barbara...oh wait, we're talking about SD!

Best California Burrito: Super Sergio's - french fries instead of regular potatoes, no sour cream, no guac, just salsa (i actually like it that way.
Best Breakfast Burrito: Alejandro's (Mira Mesa Blvd.) - potato, bacon and egg burriton what a perfect blend of sodium, protein and carbs.
Best Carne Asada Fries: Alejandro's (Mira Mesa Blvd) - crispy fries with all the trimmings, sour cream and guac!
Best Big 'Ol Burrito: Mr Taco (La Jolla) - that thing is huuuuuuuuuuuge and purty damn good.

I do want to try some potato burritos at Pokez...i heard they're extra yummy.

The BEST POLLO ASADA burrito in San Diego is about a 15 min. drive on the 8 East.

Exit Second Street, turn left. Drive about 2 miles and on your right hand side you'll spot a distinctive yellow bard. There lies Valerio's. Valerio's Pollo Asada burrito is like none other out there. All white meat chicken breast perfectly executed in a warm tortilla with succellent marinades and cheese. Goes fabulous with a horchata.

YUM.

Other than that, El Cotijan on Clairemont has always proven reliable.

As long as there is guac inside with no rice or beans in there, I'm stoked.
