I have to give them 5 stars.....although due to the large amount drinking that takes place, I'm only pretty sure that I have a great time.  Jen and Kate rock....
(Recommend having plans for a cab or walking home from this location....it's usually what I have to do.)

(Women....after a few glasses of wine you can saunter over the the mens underwear store???? Sometimes they have live male models...yah!!)

If you are a chatty Cathy and love good wine, this is the place for you. I first found this place while spending a romantic Valentine's Day weekend in Portland.
Our hotel recommended this place, and I in turn, have been recommending it as well.
The people in it vary, not just a wine snob crowd, not people there to get in on the cheap Champagne Friday (yes, good bubbly cheap!), a varience of all.
The staff are incredibly knowledgable and hit it right on the head when I described what I was looking for in a local wine. They chat with you about your likes, dislikes, food interests and finally give you a selection of wines that fit your needs. They give you a variety with price ranges as well.
All in all, a wonderful place to sip a local vineyard and chat with foodies.

We stumbled on this great little wine bar on the way to our hotel.  We sampled a flight of Oregon Pinots and got some good recommendations on places to visit the next day in the Willamette Valley.  This was the perfect place to try Oregon wines and get any questions answered by their friendly staff.  We returned the next evening and were able to order some really nice wines by the glass.  Loved the house dog "Choppers" who sleeps on a shelf behind the bar.

I couldn't help but notice that, with one exception, all the other reviews are from out of towners. This makes sense since it's close to all the big Downtown Hotels and, if anyone asked me for a winebar downtown where they could  taste all those famous Oregon Pinots, that's where I'd send them. Great place, great selection, they know their stuff, they know the winemakers. You can't miss. Since there are dozens of excellent wine bars in the neighborhoods, I don't know if I'd make a special trip into downtown unless I had an out of town guest who really wanted to  taste all those famous Oregon Pinots.

This is probably one of my FAVORITE wine bars in Portland (and yes I am a PDX resident).  Jen and Kate are extremely welcoming and love to start up conversations with patrons at the bar.  Kate has the most incredible memory of anyone I have ever met... we probably make it in there about once a month and she will remember all of our past conversations (and wine selections)... its amazing.  This all said, every time we go in, its like visiting a friends house.  The best seats in the house are up at the bar where strangers become friends and there is never a lack of interesting and/or entertaining conversations to partake in.  The last Friday of every month is Champagne Friday during which you have the option to order a Champagne flight (and I mean REAL Champagne... the good stuff).  I have yet to find another bar (or restaurant) that offers such an awesome opportunity to taste $50+ bottles of champagne for a small fee of $20.  It rocks!  Word to the wise... Champagne Friday is becoming more and more popular so getting there early is your best bet for finding a seat.

What sets this wine bar apart (besides the convivial atmosphere) is the 2 dozen bottles that are open and gassed for tastes, glasses, or flights.  When one bottle is empty you can request the next bottle to be opened to replace it thus allowing you to taste nearly any wine off the shelf.  This place is great for out-of-towners and locals alike.

What a great place to hang out! My wife and I go there and Kate and Jen always make us feel at home. I never order wine anymore, Jen just knows what I like, and she always nails it. The staff can be surly-don't order two pinot flights, a cheese plate, olives, and a beer at 7:55-you should now better. We love the fact we can try everything and not commit to a whole glass or a bottle. Kate worked her magic to get some special order Reidel glasses in time for Christmas. On several occasions we have struck up a conversation with some out of towners who also loved the place.

I have a horrible memory, maybe it's because I drink too much wine.  I went here five years ago, yes, FIVE, and I still recommend this place to people.  I loved tasting all of the wines from Oregon, especially, the Pinot Noirs.  They gave us pencils and paper placemats with circles to place the glasses on to write the year/name and our thoughts.  We bought a very reasonably priced bottle of Veuve Clicqout after tasting several wines and had a wonderful time.

A great place to try and buy Oregon Pinot Noir by the glass or by the bottle.

Smack dab across from the Marriott on Broaday exists this small wine shop / bar that is phenomenal.  They stock very exceptional Oregonian wines (I was specifically seeking two and they had both), in addition to various champagnes by the bottle.  There is a smallish bar and a few tables as well where you can sit, sip and relax.
Beware:  the place isn't easy to fine.  The windows are dark and there is barley any signage.  Well worth the visit.
