Metropolitan Ave-Lorimer St (G, L)
Ellio Spana the founder of the place, is the nicer and most friendly and talented person the i have ink with, i plan on going back to him for next tattoo, the place is super clean. i am a hair stylist for 26 year in New York City and my job is about lines and angles and let me say he is amazing a total artist ,the staff is very friendly and fast to help, so if you want a awesome tattoo done by talented people this is the place. thank Ellio. Harry.
Walked in last Saturday while visiting my friend in NY. I live in Boston but when I called a place there to see if they accepted walk-ins, they shut me down. Fly Rite receptionist was very accomodating on the phone beforehand, telling me if they couldn't see me Saturday then they would definitely fit me in Sunday.
I was expecting to wait an hour but my artist's appt canceled and they were able to do my tattoo after a 20 minute wait. Before then, Marina, the receptionist, was great and looked up pictures on the internet with me to try to figure out what I wanted. She also drew it out the stencil, and I was pleased with the results.
Wish I could remember my artist's name, but he was really nice and friendly. When placing the stencil I thought it was a little crooked, but he said no problem and wiped it off, carefully placing it again. All in all, he did a great job-- the tattoo's healing great and I will recommend the place to others.
Place is clean, and the employees all seem to really care about each other. And the price wasn't bad at all--cheaper than I'd been quoted in Boston.

I had three "must do" items on my recent NY trip itinerary: see one more Mets game at Shea, have a burrito at Burritoville, and get some ink at FlyRite. The Mets won, my Hole Mole burrito was delicious, and I had an absolutely awesome tattoo experience.
The large-ish black and gray swallow on my neck is my ninth tattoo, and I'm not sure there's any way I could be happier with it. The outline was done by a friend (EXTREMELY amateur) and was in desperate need of fixing / finishing.
Mike Lucena took a good look at it, considered its "save-ability", and said "to hell with it, let's fix it."
Two hours later my piece had been transformed from "please don't take me anywhere I have to take my shirt off" to "I don't care if we're in the grocery store, sweetie, I'm taking my shirt off so people can see my swallow."
By far my best tattoo experience to date. The shop was totally clean, very professional, extremely comfortable, and staffed with 100% awesome and friendly people. Seriously, I cannot wait to go back for more ink.
This picture really doesn't do the bird justice, but have a look - http://flickr.com/phot...

I got a custom piece on my leg done by Nick Caruso and i couldn't be happier. I brought in a horrible and very amateurish sketch which he cleaned up and evened out. The work was done in less than an hour and was virtually pain free (It was my first tattoo). It's a very clean place with friendly people and the price was more than reasonable. It's healing up and looks better than i thought it would. My next piece will definitely be done by Nick at Fly Rite.
I went to Flyrite for the completion of my arm sleeve mainly because of yelp reviews and its location close to the Lorimer stop. I met with Charlie Foos, who was pumped about my idea from the start. The consult was great, he really made sure to understand what I wanted and gave me great ideas to make everything flow better. He drew it up for me, and just the outline alone came out better than I'd hoped.
First session was last Sunday. I got to know Charlie better, hes a great guy and knows his stuff about art (hes got a graduate degree in art and paints on the side). The outline came out awesome, and we'll probably finish it up with shading/color next session. Everything was clean, comfortable, and professional, definitely a place I'd highly recommend. I will update on the final outcome!

Awesome experience from start to finish. The girl at the counter was totally chill as well as being completely professional. Elio did my piece and he asked all the right questions about how I wanted it. I took a part from a painting so he said he was going to do his best to recreate all the brush strokes and shading - and it turned out beautifully! He said he had a lot of fun doing it, and it showed.
Bring your deposit in cash - and for the final work credit cards are accepted, of course, but you get super smiles if you pay the whole shebang with cash.

Awesome tattoo place!!!!! steven is really cool he did my first tattoo. He was fast and i hardly felt any pain!
What better way is there to spend a sunday evening than getting a little good body art at a great shop?! Charlie did a fantastic job updating my 14 year old tattoo so I can be proud of it again rather than hide the faded blur it had become. Everything about Flyright is clean and comfortable and the people who work there are friendly, professional, high quality artists. All in all it was such a great tattooing experience!

Super nice counter girl.
Going in tomorrow! SO stoked. Will update!!
update: Went to Charlie, who was great. He was quick, really entertaining, and kept me totally at ease (my first one!) while I squirmed. Very nice digs.
I totally recommend it to anyone.

I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. It's a fantastic shop.
Charlie Foos did my Sailor Jerry piece. He took his time making sure that it was positioned right (it was on my bicep and went around, so it really needed to be precise and viewed head-on). He worked fast. He took a design that I downloaded online and really sharpened the detail, added a lot of shading. It went from ordinary to outstanding. He's an excellent artist. I had no idea it would look that good when it was finished!! Charlie made the experience really enjoyable--he's a nice, even-tempered guy from Baltimore and was a total pleasure to be with. I've already got my next one by him planned!
Everything you'd want from a tattoo experience, plain and simple.
Everyone I've encountered here has been really friendly, even considering I came in with a friend to get "F(heart)CK" tattooed on our inner lips (all tattoo artists hate inner lip tattoos, unless they're REALLY clever).
I first went in with a friend of mine to get her first tattoo. Charley was incredibly nice, and talked her through everything. Her tattoo turned out perfectly, and she was really happy with the whole experience.
A week later my friend and I went in for the dreaded lip tattoos (I also got an old one retouched). Nick Caruso was awesome and hilarious and super-friendly. He did an AMAZING job touching up my old tattoo, which, after 5 years, and negligence on my part while it was healing, was looking pretty awful. It's healing wonderfully and looks great. As for the inner lip tattoos...they've been holding ink really well and he did a great job on them. I think he was actually kind of amused by them. Anyway, I can't recommend this guy enough. Although I didn't get anything too complicated, the photos of his work suggest that he's capable of great things, and he's certainly an awesome, friendly guy. I'm definitely going back to him for my next tattoo, once I mull over it for a few more months and make sure it's what I want.
PS I just added a photo of the inner lip tattoo to my photos section.

Saw Alex last year for a cover up. You would never know it was a cover up--full color, traditional sparrow (hiding a lame decision made as a very underage teenager). Everyone is very nice, very helpful. My tattoo is in a place that involves my underwear showing, and Alex very considerately did the ink in the back (private) room. Great experience--was recommended to me by a friend with full sleeves, so she knows of what she speaks.

A great place to get ink done. Everyone here is very friendly and welcoming, I never got any attitude and they are all laid back. At some shops, I have gotten that feeling like they don't want to waste your time if you aren't doing some elaborate $1500 sleeve, but that is not the case at Flyrite. I had 2 sessions with Charlie Foos who is a great (and hilarious) guy. He made the five hours (total) of tattooing on my ribs as painless as possible. Very clean place and close to the Lorimer stop on the L.

One of the best shop's in Brooklyn.Elio has been tattooing in New York for a long time..He has some really talented tattooers working for him.And they moved a few doors down from their old location into a much bigger space.

I got my first tattoo at their old location. The staff was very friendly and were great at making me feel less nervous, even if there was death metal playing in the background.
I took a friend of mine here to get her first tattoo as well and she had the same experience... super nervous at first, but quickly put at ease by everyone working there.
The place is super clean. The artists very talented, and I plan on going back there for my next tat.
Small shop by the BQE. Completely unpretentious and do amazing work under the radar. I've had friends and partners done by Steve Huie and Kelly Krantz (who is no longer there, I believe), and their work is solid.
I had a larger piece on my back inked by Elio Espana, the founder of the place, and not only did he finish it in record time and made it as painless as possible (considering it was right on my spine), but it looks absolutely fantastic and completely painterly (ie like a watercolor, which is what I was hoping for). I've never had this happen to me with other work I've had done, but people honestly come up to me whenever the tattoo is exposed to compliment or talk to me about it. It's led to some weird interactions, and definitely gets old... but I guess it is an ultimate compliment to the work Flyrite does that other people respond to it so well.

This is more of a review for Myles Karr (whom I had an appointment with before he moved there) than the shop itself, but since Myles lives there now, the shop benefits from Myles' awesomeness. Actually, the shop gets a thumbs up too because it's only a couple of blocks from my apartment. Anyway, if you don't know Myles yourself, it's likely you know somebody who has a tattoo by him...and if you want an awesome tattoo done by a talented dude who is nice, funny and totally chill, you should go to him too.
UPDATE: Myles is now over at SAVED tattoo, which is also in Williamsburg...just on the other side of the BQE.

They were the most expensive tattoo parlor I have ever been in. I'm still not sure why I didn't walk out when they quoted me the price. I could have gotten 3 of my other tattoos done for the price they charged me, and most of my other tattoos are bigger and they all have more detail. The people working weren't even nice. They made me feel like I was putting them out by even asking them to tattoo me. The results are good, but they would have been just as good at somewhere with better service and more reasonable prices.

They do great work here. I got two tattoos done by Steven Huie, who is only there on some days, but saw other people's work and it was very good. The people who work here are nice, and really hilarious. A very solid place to get a not-out-of-a-book tattoo done. These guys are real artists. Reasonably priced, clean, and very professional. Highly recommended. It's only about 2 blocks from the L-stop as well.

Flyrite does great traditional work.
Kelly did a small-scale Sailor Jerry homeward bound ship and banner on my left wrist a few years ago, with seven colors and a ton of detail. All in a 2-inch by 3-inch area. I get compliments on it all the time. It was my last tattoo in NYC before moving away, and I love it.
I have to agree w/ all of the other reviews... clean, low-key environment. On both occasions, I've had excellent experiences -- start to finish. From walking in and being greeted, chatting it up while waiting, cleaning up and styling my designs, and the process of getting inked -- all flawless. A BIG thank you to Alex!!

One of the least intimidating places to get yourself tattooed up. The guys here are all sweet and down-to-earth and, most of all, talented at what they do, from flash to custom work. Rates are cheaper than most Manhattan tattoo shops, and it's right off the second stop in Brooklyn on the L train. And if you go there often enough, and are a moderately cool person, they'll probably give you a frequent flyer discount of some sort. Overheard conversation while you're getting tattooed is entertaining enough that you may temporarily forget that you're getting ink injected into your body.

ok, so i haven't GOTTEN my tattoo here yet, but already it has been a great experience.
my friend and i busted in, kamikaze style, with no warning, very much on purpose. we figured it would be a good way of getting the real-deal-feel. we wanted to see if anyone would help us, and if the tattoo artist we were interested would pop out to say hello. (this will be my first and only tattoo, so i am obviously being really picky and making a huge deal of this decision.)
the guy at the desk was pretty nice, he gave us some books to look at, told us to look around, and alerted the artist (stephen huey) that we were there to check him out.
stephen came out and met with us for a few minutes - he was super nice and really helpful. he answered all my questions and made some suggestions about my design.
i made my appointment for later this month and laid down a deposit! i am feeling really comfortable with this place and with stephen. all the work i saw looked excellent, the place was clean and organized, and i got a really good vibe. i will probably update this review to 5 stars (and add more info) once my tattoo is complete! wish me luck!
UPDATE: just got my tattoo last night. everything went completely awesomely and i am 100% satisfied with my entire experience. i am in love with my tattoo and stephen was great! changing this review to 5 stars. i highly reccomend this shop and stephen. i am absolutely amazed with the art he put on my body!!!
